Description
The grace of Jesus Christ is powerful and life changing. When men humble themselves and seek God with all their heart revival takes place. Satan always counter attacks. Sadly the enemy usually succeeds at stopping revival from continuing.
18th Century Methodism experienced one of the most deep and long-lasting moves of God in history. All the counter attacks of Satan were not able to stop the spread of the Methodist revival during John Wesley's leadership of over 50 years.
Wesley had very clear convictions about what promoted revival and what stopped it. He published sermons, letters, essays, journals and hymns to address various issues and keep believers pressing forward in the grace of God. His sermons were published to make clear the doctrine and preaching that God was blessing. His journals were published to document the activities and incidents taking place year after year. His published letters provided a window into the personal counsel and interaction between various individuals.
John Wesley clearly understood Justification by Faith, Regeneration, Growth in Grace, Entire Sanctification, Discipleship and the huge responsibility Christians have to build each other up through mutual accountability and support. He understood Satan's counter attacks to holiness and the spiritual weapons believers must use to overcome every assault. His sound biblical counsel is greatly needed today.
